Q. Can I pay the course in instalments?
A. Yes. You can pay for the course in instalments on either a weekly or monthly basis—whatever suits your circumstances. However, the course must be paid in full before you attend the salon to begin the practical element of your training.
Q. How much do i have to pay to enable me to start my theory?
A. Once your non-refundable deposit has been paid, your home-learning pack will be issued so you can begin the theory element of the course. All theory work must be completed before you start the practical training. Once your course has been paid in full, you are also welcome to attend our Friday theory sessions, free of charge, where we reinforce learning through demonstrations, discussions, revision activities and plenty of fun! I am also available throughout your home learning should you need any help or advice.
Q. How much is the Deposit?
A. The Deposit depends on which course you take.
Q. What if I change my mind?
A. Please take your time before booking, as course fees are non-refundable once paid in accordance with our Training Agreement and Terms & Conditions. If you're unsure whether dog grooming is the right career for you, we strongly recommend attending a Taster Day before enrolling.
Q. Is there funding for this course and do you accept funding?
A. Yes we do accept funding but each individual will have to source their own funding as everyones circumstances are different.
Q. When can I Start the Course?
A. Once all Theory is complete, we will have a conversation on when you want to come into the salon and if I can accommodate those dates. so basically at a mutually agreed time.
Q. When is my final balance due to be paid?
A. Your final balance is due once we have mutually agreed on dates to start the course. Once dates are in the diary they are final.
Q. Do I have to do the full course all at once?
A. No all you are asked to do is the first 2 weeks together. Then you can split the course up into weeks or days. But, these weeks and days must be mutually agreed at the time of booking.
Q. Do I need to have my own grooming tools?
A. Yes all students have to have their own kit. Everything that is in the kit is to be able to groom every coat type. This Pampers Kit can be purchased from Groomers World, via link supplied by us.
Q. Do you run the courses all year or is there pacific start dates?
A. Unlike many colleges or training providers, Pampers Grooming Academy does not operate fixed term times or set course start dates. Courses run throughout the year, allowing learners to start at a mutually agreed time that suits both the learner and the academy.
We only close for one week in April, one week in August and two weeks over Christmas and New Year.
As we are a working commercial grooming salon, practical training dates are booked in advance to ensure suitable dogs, tutor availability and learner places are available. For this reason, we recommend booking your practical dates as early as possible, particularly if you need to fit your training around work, holidays or family commitments.
Q. How will I know if I like Dog Grooming or not?
A. Before you decide if dog grooming as a career is for you do a Taster Day, this will give you a real feel whats its like as a groomer, the only thing you will not be allowed to do is cut the dogs using scissors or clippers. Also do your research and make sure you choose the right salon for yourself. This is why we encourage taster days you get a real feel for not only what it’s like being a groomer you also get the chance to see how the salon is run and to meet ourselves and other students before you take that final step.
Q. Employer Funded Bookings - Can my boss pay for my course?
A. Where an employer or third party pays for a learner’s course, the booking and awarding body registration must remain in the learner’s name. Pampers may issue invoices/receipts to the payer and confirm course dates.
Learner records (including attendance, progress, assessments and certificates) remain personal to the learner and will only be shared with the learner directly unless the learner provides written consent, (which is in the Training Agreement) in accordance with UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018.
Q. Can I Fit the course around my work commitments?
A. Yes. We understand that many learners continue working whilst retraining. We ask that the first two weeks of practical training are completed together to build strong foundation skills. After that, the remaining practical days can usually be arranged around your work and family commitments by mutual agreement.
Q. Why do I need to complete the first two weeks together?
A. Learning a new practical skill is much easier when you practise it consistently. The first two weeks allow you to build confidence in the essential foundation skills, such as safe handling, bathing, drying and coat preparation. Once these skills have been established, the remainder of the course can usually be arranged around your work and personal commitments. Many of our students tell us that these first two weeks give them the confidence they need before progressing at a more flexible pace.
Q. What days and times are you open?
A. We open Tuesday to Saturday and a Fridays a half day. We open from 7am in the morning until about 3.30-4.30pm in the afternoon.
Q. Are your courses run on a one to one basis?
A. No. Our courses are delivered in a commercial working grooming salon alongside other learners. Students may be at different stages of their training because, after the first two weeks, many arrange their practical days around work and family commitments. Throughout the day, tutors provide demonstrations, supervision, individual guidance and ongoing feedback appropriate to each learner's stage of development.
Q. Will I complete a full dog groom on my first day?
A. No. At Pampers Grooming Academy we teach progressively. Your first practical days focus on the foundation skills of safe handling, bathing, drying and coat preparation. These are the building blocks of every professional groom. As your confidence and competence develop, you'll gradually progress to clipping, scissoring and styling until you're able to complete full grooms safely and professionally.
Q. Will I definitely be able to groom to a professional standard within the practical course?
A. Every learner progresses at a different pace. Many students complete the practical training within the advertised course length, whilst others benefit from a little more time to build their confidence and practical skills. Neither you nor we will know exactly how quickly you will progress until we begin working together.
If you feel from the outset that you may need a little extra time to build your confidence, you may wish to consider booking our Pampers Plus Course, which includes an additional week's practical training from the start.
If you choose the standard course but later find that you would benefit from an extra week, this can also be arranged during your training. The additional week's training is chargeable.
After that, if you still require further practical experience, you will not be charged any additional training fees. By prior arrangement and subject to availability, you are welcome to continue attending until we are both satisfied that you have reached the standard required to work safely and confidently as a professional dog groomer.
Our aim is not simply to help you complete a course—we want you to leave with the confidence, knowledge and practical ability to groom members of the public's dogs safely and professionally.
